Scott Davidson is a local artist originally from Scotland who now calls Cairns in Far North Queensland home. He produces a variety of artworks using the traditional Japanese method of Gyotaku, whereby a print is made by rubbing the body of a carefully prepared and inked fish onto rice paper.
This form of printing dates back to the mid 1800’s and was used by fisherman to record their catches, but has now also become an artform of its own.
Water based inks are utilized, allowing the fish to be enjoyed and eaten afterward.
Original artworks can be created using a fish you have caught yourself or Scott has a large portfolio of art he has created through his love of fishing himself.
